Today I was searching for avatars on facebook apps and could not find the app that I was looking for, but I know it was there. I searched using the term “avatar” and I could not find Voki (see www.voki.com), a talking avatar widget. So I do a search for word ‘Voki’ and its the only search result. I read the initial description and soon learned that the word “avatar” was not in the Voki summary description. Once you click on the search result to learn more about the app you’ll find the word “avatar” in the description. I have learned that the facebook app search engine only searches the summary description.
So, all you facebook app developers and marketers start to apply some SEO to your descriptions, pick the right keywords, tags, metadata, etc…. I presume once voki adds ’avatar’ to the description that the take-rate will increase and more FC users will start to use Voki. As of today the facebook stats for voki are: 11 daily active users (1%) — 1 friend — 25 reviews
I’ll monitor this to see the impact of optimizing the summary description with better keywords.
